Happenings & News at Hunt Farm
2009 was a transition year for Hunt Farm with Ricky retiring from Far Cry Stables after almost 33 years working there. He is now available for starting and backing young horses. Pam has made some improvements to the place (see note below) with more to come and is staying busy starting and backing a variety of young horses . We have also been busy with lessons and horses in training . The breeding continues with Fleetwood’s Bolero, Caren Luckie’s fabulous TB stallion! As well as the young horses and the Breeding Classes for them!
Our GHHJA horse shows at Pine Hill this year were a great success and we look forward to great shows April 24 & 25, Oct. 23 & 24 and with the addition of a 3rd weekend in June (12 & 13)
With Jones Hall’s new home in Petaluma, Ca, with Genevieve Ghilloti and her Glenhill Farm, people in California will get to see first hand what a wonderful stallion he is!
Congratulations to Debra Dean Gaffey and Zarreaux (her 5 yr old gelding by Zarr): Year End Champion in the Pre-Green Division for GHHJA. Debby and ‘Andy’ are looking forward to showing in the Adult Hunter Division at the ‘A’ shows in Texas in 2010!
Felicia Carroll and Fleetwood’s Derby (her yearling by Fleetwood’s Bolero and out of her mare
Highlight) were Best Young Horse at the Final Chase Charity Horse Show and the Great Southwest Autumn Horse Show in November
Nora Nichol’s Oakley (yearling by Ocordo out of Nora’s Adult Hunter mare) were Best Young Horse once and Reserve Best Young Horse twice showing in the ‘Breeding’ classes at the ‘A’ shows out of 5 outings (with a 1st and 2nd in the yearling class at the other 2) and will end the year as THJA Yearling Champion!
Caren Luckie and her coming yearling, Fleetwood’s Time (by her stallion Fleetwood’s Bolero and out of the great Jones Hall mare "Sands of Time") are getting prepared for showing this spring in the ‘Breeding ‘ classes at the shows in Katy, Tx
Hunt Farm is busy getting ready for the upcoming breeding and foaling season with the addition of our new breeding section of the farm with its own special stalls for foaling (that open onto their own pastures) with cameras and full lighting in the paddocks and the stalls for monitoring . It also has breeding stocks and a small holding area for the foal while AI or palpating are taking place. It will also double as an area for Rehabbing or Monitoring injured or ill horses the rest of the year.
Mary Godfrey is staying busy with her upcoming yearling "Cam" (by Jones Hall out of Take The Heat) that she is planning on showing in the Breeding classes in 2010 and she is eagerly awaiting her foals for 2010; Take The Heat is in foal to Don Alfredo and her AQHA Appendix mare Rivating Detail "Izzy" is in foal to Jones Hall. It will be a fun year around her farm!
Lucia Hansen’s filly Khalie has started her training and we are planning on her starting in the Baby Green Division this year. Khalie is a wonderful mover and, if she is anything like her mother, she should be a fabulous jumper!
Pam and Kimberly Queener went to Warrenton in September to watch Linda Dupont’s Holland (Jones Hall x Raja’s Best Image) show in the International Hunter Futurity East Coast finals where it was his only second time out and he did a great job with Olin Armstrong in the irons winning a Baby Green Class with 30 entries and on the 2nd day got a 4th, and two 5ths in the IHF classes. It was a fun week for us and a chance to watch all the ‘Breeding Classes’. We also got a chance to visit with Courtney and Linda Somers and their Woodbrook Farm were they have some very nice hunters(that include La T Da, Ecco Domani both by Jones Hall)
We look forward to a busy and successful 2010 here at Hunt Farm
